Nine international analyses are now live across North America, Europe and Southeast Asia. New today: Mount Rainier / Grand Park 2 — a compact but operationally disruptive fire in Washington where a relatively small mapped footprint has closed major visitor corridors. Mount Rainier / Grand Park 2 Fire
A relatively small wildfire with an unusually large operational footprint. The latest federal/NPS reporting chain located by Tecnobosque lists 167 acres and 31% containment. Moderate backing, creeping and short-range spotting continue in steep, fuel-rich terrain while Sunrise, White River, Grand Park and multiple trail systems remain affected by closures.
High Fens Wildfire / Belgium
Belgium’s record-scale High Fens fire combines difficult terrain, changing wind, smoke-driven evacuations and a peat-rich landscape. The 08:00 official update says several hotspots remain active, the defence line protecting evacuated areas is holding and aerial operations have resumed on the hard-to-access eastern front. The latest official area estimate remains about 2,700 hectares.
Bald Range Wildfire
An evidence-based reconstruction of extreme fire behaviour, rapid growth and community exposure between Summerland and Peachland. The latest centre snapshot reports 19,149 hectares and an out-of-control operational status.
Timber Fire / Big Sur
An active coastal wildfire operating between Pacific marine influence and the dry Santa Lucia terrain. The 13 August snapshot reports 4,445 acres, 7% containment and 1,842 personnel, with Highway 1 acting as both opportunity and vulnerability.
Halkidiki Wildfire / Siviri
A wind-driven coastal WUI fire that crossed the Siviri–Kassandreia road and forced evacuation by land and sea. At the 14 August cut-off no active front was reported, while crews remained on re-ignition watch after approximately 350 people were evacuated by sea.
Omiš Wildfire / Croatia
A wind-driven coastal WUI incident above Lokva Rogoznica that pushed into the peak-season Omiš tourism corridor. The 15 August update places the affected area at about 1,000 hectares: the overall situation is stable, but sporadic flare-ups remain and aerial work continues on the northern slopes; one fatality and around 40 injuries have been reported.
Luglon Wildfire / France
A major wildfire in the Landes pine forest has developed across two separated fire zones. The 15 August update reports about 1,300 hectares affected, 550 evacuees and 550 firefighters, with continued operational pressure in the south-east sector.
Hürtgen Forest Wildfire / Germany
A mixed ground/surface and crown-fire incident near Gey where the headline area is only part of the story. The 15 August snapshot places the affected area at roughly 200–300 hectares, with about 2,000 people evacuated and 1,400 responders deployed. WWII unexploded ordnance restricts safe ground access, making perimeter durability and weather windows unusually important.
Indonesia Wildfires 2026 / Borneo Peat Fires
A regional multi-fire crisis where visible flame is only one layer of the hazard. West Kalimantan is central to a peat-fire system capable of persistent underground smouldering and transboundary smoke into Sarawak, Malaysia. Indonesia reported 107,465 hectares of land affected from January–June 2026; that national figure is not a single incident perimeter.

The aim is not to collect headlines. It is to compare scenarios, recognise patterns and explain what major wildfires reveal about the vulnerability of our own territories.
Compare scales
From wildland–urban interface fires to regional or continental events: the scale changes, but the relationships between fuel, atmosphere, topography and exposure remain.
Read the signal
Thermal detections, mapped perimeters, operational estimates and final burned area are kept separate to avoid conclusions the evidence cannot support.
Translate into prevention
Each analysis ends where it delivers practical value: what can be learned for spatial planning, the wildland–urban interface and infrastructure protection.
One discipline. Different territories.
The methodology adapts to the availability and quality of sources in each country. When information cannot be verified or meaningfully compared, that limitation is stated explicitly.

Forest agencies, civil protection authorities, meteorological services and the territorial bodies responsible for each wildfire.
Time and scale
Each data point is checked for publication time, spatial meaning and whether it represents an estimate, a detection or a validated boundary.
Fire behaviour
Meteorology, fuel, topography, convection, spotting, the wildland–urban interface and operational constraints.
Useful lessons
Applicable lessons for prevention and resilience are identified without turning an analytical narrative into operational instruction.
